Backup Instance by Veeam
Service overview
Backup Instance by Veeam allows users to create backups for VMs, monitor backup status, view restore points, restore VMs from restore points, export reports, and track operation history.
In Version 1.5, users operate directly on the Unify Portal with the following main feature groups:
- Backup Job Management
- Restore Point Management
- Restore
- Report Management
- History Audit
Prerequisites
- The tenant has Backup Instance by Veeam service activated.
- The user has an active account and is logged in to the Unify Portal.
- The user has permissions to operate within the current VPC.
- The VM to back up or restore belongs to the current VPC.
- The tenant has sufficient backup quota.
- The backup system, portal, and related services are operating normally.
Core concepts
Backup Job
A backup job is a backup configuration for one or more VMs within the same VPC. A backup job can run on a schedule or be executed manually when the user needs an immediate backup.
Restore Point
A restore point is a recovery point created after each successful backup. Users can select a restore point to restore a VM.
Schedule
A schedule defines when a backup job runs. Version 1.5 supports Daily and Monthly schedules.
Retention
Retention is the policy that governs how backups are kept. Users can configure the number of restore points or the number of days to retain.
Backup Copy (Offsite)
Backup Copy (Offsite) is an option to store an additional offsite copy according to the infrastructure configuration. This option is set when creating a job and cannot be changed in the job update flow in Version 1.5.
Manual Backup
Manual backup runs a backup job immediately from the Unify Portal without waiting for the next scheduled run.
Auto Report Job
An auto report job is a configuration for sending reports periodically by email.
Things to note before operating
- A VM can belong to only one backup job at any given time.
- Some operations such as delete job, restore, or empty restore point require processing time.
- Restore (overwrite) can overwrite the current state of the VM.
- Deleting a backup job does not delete restore points.
- If you cannot see a VM, backup job, or action, check your access permissions, the current VPC, and the service status.
